Item Description

Many proponents of marijuana decriminalization have argued partially decriminalizing marijuana would largely reduce costs of maintaining the criminal justice and law enforcement systems, while fully decriminalizing marijuana to allow the cultivation and sale would generate a substantial amount of income from taxing marijuana sales. Other arguments assert that the funds saved from marijuana decriminalization could be used to enforce laws for other, more serious and violent crimes.

Attempts to decriminalization of marijuana in the United States began in the 1970s and several jurisdictions have subsequently decriminalized marijuana (also referred to as cannabis) for non-medical purposes, as views on marijuana have liberalized, peaking in 1978.[1] The decriminalization movement supports efforts ranging from reducing penalties for marijuana-related offenses to removing all penalties related to ....

I hope the California Cannabis Act DOES go before voters as a ballot initiative, and I hope it passes. Prohibitions, in the past, never work – they just don't, and the only thing it does is enrich criminals and create |more need for prisons – and then citizens wind up needing payday advances for lawyers to defend themselves in court. We should legalize marijuana completely – medical marijuana has benefits, and it's obvious that there's a demand for it – and supply will always meet demand. Not forgetting the idiotic nature of government to tell people what they may or mayn't do within the privacy of their own houses, if they aren't hurting anybody.

There are so many reasons why Cannabis should be legalized, but I fear that too many people have an old fashioned mindset regarding the plant.

Will it be legalized? Probably, largely due to the fact that the internet gives people a medium to debunk myths about the "dangers" of marijuana. Yet, people cling to these myths for dear life. They're terrified of pot. Things are changing, though.

More and more states are adopting Medical Marijuana programs, a step in the direction of legalization. Public opinion is warming to the idea of legalized pot, slowly but surely.

I think its a waste of time. Making it legal won't help. A lot of people who smoke also do other drugs as well. It's not like druggies make this the drug of choice, its a drug of availability.

Drug War was lost long time ago. Even drug police wants to legalize it to some extent. I'd like government to legalize marijuana and put it on same category as alcohol - do it at home but not in public or driving. Remember kids - say no to drug! ;)
